Year of the...

Happy new year! We are pleased to tell you that we shall be heading back to one of our favourite venues for a Friday night foray.

We're on at a fairly sociable hour so all of you who like to frequent the pubs and bars of London Town after work on a Friday can come along with a merry band in tow and all of you who want to make a night of it can do just the same we hope.

We've got a few new songs we hope to showcase (Touching Glass, Impatiant to transcend & Year of the...)

So after the January blues, avoid the bad luck and masked murderers associated with Friday 13th with us.

You can either download the flyer here or drop us a line via Facebook or Myspace and we'll stick you on the guestlist, both will get you in for £6. We are on stage at 19:45, there's other bands, DJ'S, Drinking & Dancing also on the bill.

Hope we see you there and we can make it a massive night.

Oh and by the way, we recently did a demo of some of our new material to get an idea of what it's sounding like. We have put a version of one the songs called 'The Garden' on MySpace, you may have heard it at our last gig. We'd love it if you checked it out, Hope you like it.

A massive thank you to everyone who came down to see us at The Dublin Castle on Saturday night, and there was a fair few of you! It was fantastic to be back on stage after such a long time away and our appetites have now been whetted for more.

There was a great vibe in the venue that really helped us with any apprehension we may have had. The Lovebirds, Spectrum Fires & Second line were fantastic and we really look forward to seeing them and playing with them again soon.

The one downside of the evening was just how quickly our set passed, after such a massive build up and a lot of time spent in the studio in preparation I think we could have all stayed up there all night. Old favourites Recovery, Intentions & 529 still sounded fresh and the new songs Navigate, The Picture Is Drying Out, Avoiding The Icebergs and a re-worked version of The Garden really stood out and were well received.

Over the last few days since the gig we have been receiving various gig offers and are now looking to put something in place before the end of the year and to start filling the diary for 2009.

Thank you for all of the support on the night and a massive thanks to Glyn Parry for putting on the night and all the organisation. It's taken us a while to get our act together but I think you can look forward to seeing and hearing a lot more of us over the next year.

So keep you eyes peeled on this blog, our website and all our various other sites (Facebook & MySpace) for new dates and if all goes to plan some live recordings of the new songs.

After a break of almost two years The Fractures are back!

During our leave of absence we have played with a host of ideas and thought about moving in new directions. But since the return of Adam Tuckwell on drums its all come flooding back to us with a passion and our renewed vigour and determination has paid off.

We are happy to announce that we will be RETURNING to the LIVE stage at the start of SEPTEMBER!!! With a set list that will possibly include favourites such as Recovery & 529, The Fractures will also be showcasing new material such as Grateful for the positives, Avoiding the icebergs & Navigate.

Its been a long time coming and we haven't seen many of you for a fair while now, and there are many of you who have been waiting for an opportunity to see The Fractures live.

Choke

This is a film we have been waiting for, it's taken its time as various people have dropped and picked up the project but at long last its here.

Based upon the Chuck Palahniuk novel of the same name 'Choke' tells the story of Victor Mancini, a sex-addicted med-school dropout, who keeps his increasingly deranged mother, Ida, in an expensive private medical hospital by working days as a historical re-enactor at a Colonial Williamsburg theme park. At night, Victor runs a scam by deliberately choking in upscale restaurants to form parasitic relationships with the wealthy patrons who "save" him. When, in a rare lucid movement, Ida reveals that she has withheld the shocking truth of his father's identity, Victor enlists the aid of his best friend, Denny and his mother's beautiful attending physician, Dr. Paige Marshall, to solve the mystery before the truth of his possibly divine parentage is lost forever.

The novel itself is one of the Chuck's best, and that's saying something for the man who wrote 'Fight Club'.

Don't go expecting to see anything like David Fincher's screen adaption of 'Fight Club'. 'Choke' is a far cry from the world of Tyler Durden & Marla Singer, yet being that it's all bassed around the genius work of Chuck Palahniuk there is sure to be an unmistakable sense of familiarity.

As great as the cast for 'Fight Club' was Sam Rockwell appears to be perfectly cast as Victor Mancini.

Pretty much all of Chuck's work are set for movie adaption's, it's just a shame that they'll never be able to make 'Survivor'.

The Biffy Clyro song 'Joy.Discovery.Invention'and the Panic! at the Disco song 'Build God, Then we'll talk & The Scare song 'If I'm choking, make a scene' are each named after a phrase in Choke.

There's been a couple of books lately that have been a great influence on the lyrical content of our new songs, two of these books are by Craig Clevenger. The man is surely a genius...

Dermaphoria
A contempery pulp mystery accurately detailed and written with the passion of a lit match poised to light a rising layer of ether. This world of phantoms & drug-fueled paranoia is piled high with jagged verbal acrobatics, Clevenger has his own attitude and a film-noirish literary style that is unique...

Reading the first few chapters of Dermaphoria is gleefully confusing, a hallucinogenic labyrinth, an intoxicating funhouse of mirrors, which challenges and entices. Even when plot twists and turns aren't immediately clear, the novel provides a narrow thread of reality to pull the reader through the maze of Eric's memories and perceptions.

The Contortionist's Handbook
Dermaphoria is the follow up to The Contortionist's Handbook.

A dazzling and highly original debut novel which instantly establishes its author as one of the most interesting writers to emerge in years. Craig Clevenger has crafted unforgettable antihero's in John Dolan Vincent & Eric Ashworth.

The term "cult" is liberally applied to novels, but can have myriad meanings. Some critics habitually bestow it on the sort of book that they may find interesting, but feel will best be appreciated by cooler, hipper and more rebellious souls than themselves and their peers.

If one book is certainly destined for at least cult status, Craig Clevenger's excellent debut novel.The creative team behinde Donnie Darko quickly snapped up the film rights to a work that is just gagging for a big screen adaptation.

Both works involve drug abuse, a murky criminal underworld and a flawed lead character, what more could anyone want?

Interpol - Our Love To Admire

We've been waiting for this for ages, but it was worth it. Amazing third album from the mighty Pol. Look out for 'All Fired Up', 'Pace Is The Trick' and 'The Scale'. We went to see them in Dresden a couple of months back and are seeing them again in November in London.

Editors - An End Has A Start

Love the piano's and synths. Some massive sounding tracks that really grow on you. Could have been a bit more subtle with some of the ryff's but apart from that it's a top album.

Interpol - 5 (From the Chem087 E.P)

Ahh more Interpol of course. This is a rare track from a really early compilation album. It's an instrumental that starts off with some disturbing screaming, then the bass line takes over and relentlessly drives the whole thing. It's been a big influence on our new tracks.

New material

We've been working on some new material and it's coming along nicely. New tracks include; Navigate, Modify or Enlighten and Grateful For The Positives. The sound is much darker and the tracks have a bit more of a groove to them. They are quite complex but we've been working really hard on getting a new focussed and defined sound. We're going to start recording some demo's soon, so we will post them here for you to listen to when there done.

Dresden

We went on a trip to Germany/Dresden to see Interpol in June. It was at The Old Slaughter House (The Germans really know how to host a gig). The venue and sound was amazing, and they played loads of old stuff. We are going to see them again in London in November.
